Wallpaper is the devil

Our first project in the new house was to finally give Parker a room just for him. He picked out some sweet wall stickers (see photo) and decided he wanted his room painted Army green.

Perfect, I thought, starting in Parker's room will be a good place to get some practice at tearing down this wallpaper.

Yeah, about that ...

Wallpaper is the worst decoration idea ever. That stuff freaking sucks to remove. I bought the scorer, the scraper, the spray bottle. I read articles on how to remove it. I didn't figure it would be the most hated thing I've done in a long time.

My sister and I spend hours scoring, wetting, and scraping the 3 walls that were wallpapered halfway up the wall. It was slow moving and it would only come off in tiny shreds. So tiny, the paper shreds looked like a rat's nest on the floor.

Dale decided to tackle the one wall that was covered entirely in stupid wallpaper, and in true Dale fashion, he kicked it's ass. He figured out that if you tear the top layer off while it's all dry, it comes off a whole lot faster. Genius.

So we got to a point where I thought I had the walls all cleaned off and we could paint. It was then that I realized I didn't do as grand of a job as I thought. You could see every spot where there was still wallpaper glue as soon as that green paint landed on the wall.

So, I did what anyone would do, I kept painting. Coat after coat until I had it covered up. My pal Casey helped me paint the first night, which helped my sanity. I probably would have cried otherwise. Stupid wallpaper.

Anyway, two days later, Parkerpants has a finished room and I have learned a few lessons from my first attempt at making my house my own. Lesson 1: NEVER install wallpaper. Lesson 2: Tear the paper off while it's dry, then wet it down to get the glue off. Lesson 3: When you think you have all that stupid glue off the wall, go over it again and again until you are sure. Lesson 4: Even if the paint isn't perfect, it's still better than stupid wallpaper.

I'll post before/after pictures tomorrow.
