Last Tuesday, the kids and I went to Branson with my sister Tammy, her kids and my mom. We headed down to spend an early Thanksgiving with Jenny, the eldest of us 3 girls. Our plan was to leave when the kids got out of school, go part way Tuesday night and finish the rest of the way Wednesday. It was perfect, except for one minor glitch. Koda.
Yes, I had to take the dog along. I just didn't feel right leaving him behind. I bought him one of those dog harness things that acts like a seatbelt for dogs so he couldn't roam the car, a new chew toy, and a new comfy bed to ride in on the way. I had everything was all planned out to be as easy as possible.
What I didn't plan for, was Koda's refusal to use his potty breaks to the best of his advantage. Stupid dog.
Our first stop, at a Nebraska City truck stop, he was distracted by every noise he heard. After about 5 minutes, I gave up on him, and back in the car he went. A few hours down the road, we stopped at St. Joseph for dinner. Once again, I wandered around with him on the leash and again no such luck. So back in the car he went. We all ate dinner, then I tried again. No.
So down the road we went, not stopping until we reached our hotel in Harrisonville Mo. It was here that ol' Koda finally decided it was ok to pee while attached to a leash. Finally. So the kids, the dog and I got settled into our room, and were almost ready for bed when Koda decides he needs to go outside again. Oh great. I tell Parker he needs to get dressed so we can take the dog out, and him, being entirely serious says, "You go, I'll watch Macy." Haha. I ended up having my sister come up and sit with the kids so I could run him out again, and he really did have to go. Whew.
The entire rest of the trip, it was hit or miss on if he was going to go when I let him out or not. He, who never has accidents at home anymore, had a handful of accidents at my sisters house. It was embarrassing. I mean, who wants their dog making stinky dog messes in someone else's house? Not I, that's who.
Finally, on the last day we were there, Koda figured out that he needed to go when I let him out and not wait because he would get into a lot of trouble. It only took from Tuesday to Saturday to figure it out. Stupid dog.
The trip home with Koda went a lot better than on the way down. It was a good thing too because we made the entire trip in one day.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to actually blog about the trip with the inclusion of photos.
