Nebraska State Fair

Last Saturday the kids and I decided we were going to brave the heat and crowds and go to the state fair in Grand Island. Using all of my logic skills, I decided the best time to go would be during the first Husker game of the season since surely everyone would rather watch that than go to the fair right? Yeah wrong. It was super crowded and super hot. Not my best fair experience, that's for sure.

We did make the best of it though. We saw the chickens and ducks, the sheep and the cows. We had ice cream, visited the petting zoo, and saw some of the displays. We did not ride any rides however. It was super hot and I was all by myself with both of them, and decided that combination was not going to produce a good outcome on the midway. So I told Parker I'd buy him a toy at Walmart instead. (Truthfully I probably saved money buying a toy instead of riding rides. Have you seen how expensive those things are these days?

The highlight of the day was the petting zoo. They had a tortoise, a zebra, a zonky (zebra+donkey), a yak, a bison, a white buffalo, and the most amazing thing of all, a goat that had four horns. Two on the back and two on the front as Parker says. It was really kind of creepy actually. We got to see it ram a little tiny baby goat and make it scream. Needless to say we didn't give that guy any food.

Overall, it was a pretty good day.
