Run, run, as fast as you can

The Lincoln Half-Marathon is in approximately 73 days, 20 hours, 29 minutes according to http://www.lincolnrun.org/marathon.htm.

That means I've got roughly 11 weeks to get my stamina up to running 13.1 miles. I'm scared I won't be able to pull it off and it's really getting me worried. I mean seriously, I need to step up my training game.

Dale's schedule finally changed a little bit, so I've been able to run during the week. This helps a ton. On Monday I went on a quick 2 mile run, which turned out to be my fastest 2 miles since I started training. It's nice to see that I'm becoming a stronger runner, but running a fast 2 and running a longer distance are two different things.

Yesterday I ran 6 miles for the second time. It was a mental struggle the entire last 1.5 miles. My body hurt, I wanted to quit, and oh how easy it is to just stop running, which I did... twice. Each time I gave myself a mental pep-talk and started to run again. I ended up finishing the entire 6 miles just 1.5 minutes slower than my previous 6 mile run. Not bad considering I walked a little bit this time.

Next week, I'm going to attempt 7 miles. I am going to have to gradually increase the distance each week if I ever expect to make it 13.1. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it!

  1. I know you can do it! ... I only need to condition for 6 miles... about what you have left; I am a bit scared too that I won't make it. Have you checked on your sister-in-law for this run... I haven't heard her mention any training. :) ... you should rib her a bit! or a lot!! :)
