It was not until I got here that I realized our rental house did not have a mailbox. I quickly went to the post office to see what I was supposed to do and was informed that they do not deliver mail on my road and I will be assigned a free post office box. When I informed them I had already completed a change of address for our house address, the lady said, "Oh you shouldn't have done that. We don't deliver mail on that road." Like I was supposed to know that or something. I then offered to do a new change of address from our house address to the PO Box and again the lady was all "No you can't do that, it will just confuse the system." So I was pretty much told it would just have to fix itself and I ruined everyone's lives at the Post Office because it's going to be hard to know that my mail should go into my PO Box or something. Apparently I'm a dumbass, or that's how it made me feel anyway.
After a few weeks, it seemed everything was slowly making it's way into my mailbox. Most of them covered in yellow stickers saying "NOTIFY SENDER OF NEW ADDRESS," which yeah, whatever. I updated the important stuff that would accept a PO Box as an address, but I'm not going to bother on the junk, I just won't. Today though, and maybe I'm hormonal and crazy or something, I got a note of a different kind that really kind of pissed me off.
I subscribed to Family Circle about 2 years ago, and my last name was different then. It still comes addressed to my maiden name. No big deal right? I've received it without problems for the past 2 years even though my name changed. This month's magazine came addressed to my maiden name at my street address. OMG!!! I find my maiden name circled with a question mark and a sticky note attached to my magazine that says:
If this is yours, please arrange to have it sent to your PO Box. It would also be wonderful if you could change your name to (my current last name). Sometimes these things cause a lot of confusion for subs and new help. Thanks.
So it sounds nice enough, but I'm seriously annoyed by it. First off, I've always received my mail addressed to my maiden name, my misspelled name, heck even my mom's maiden name, without any problems from my prior mail delivery person. Secondly, I have no freaking clue how to change my address on a magazine subscription. I've never had to do it before and they magically always make it to my mailbox. And third, a sticky note? really?
Ugh. I guess if I worked in a Post Office I may have more compassion, but I just don't see how hard it can be to just put my mail in my box and leave me alone. It's not my fault you don't deliver mail on my street and seriously, this is a small town, how many Gail's live here?
