Not-so-single mom

Our year and a half of having a somewhat normal family life is over. Tomorrow my life as a not-so-single mom goes back into effect.

Yes, Dale's leaving for Alabama again.

It's a bittersweet thing really. On one side, I'm super excited for him. He has a fantastic opportunity to learn to fly a C-12 (fixed wing airplane) that many aviators don't ever get the chance to learn in their careers. From what I hear, it's so rare that a young aviator would be flying C-12's that people think one must've known the General to get a slot. So yeah, it's super cool that Dale gets to go.

The other side though is the part that makes me say boo. He's gone for 3 months and the kids and I are here. I knew it was coming and I know it's a less scary, state-side assignment, but no matter how you slice it, it's no fun when your husband leaves you to hold down the fort. I don't care if it's a weekend, a week, a month, or a year, it's just not something I would call an exciting time.

The good news is I know I'll be fine. I've been a not-so-single mom many times before. The first month and a half of Parker's life Dale was gone for Border Patrol and some other training. The next 2 years Dale worked on the road and was only home on the weekends he didn't have drill. Then came the year where he worked on the road, had WOCS (Warrant Officer Candidate School), graduated, married me, and left for Alabama 3 months before Parker and I joined him. It's safe to say that the most time Dale and I ever spent together were the past 18 months in Alabama.

The major difference between my not-so-single mom life before and now is I had a full-time job then, and I have no job now. I'm thinking that may have been the key to my sanity, so I'm actively pursuing employment. I had an interview for a part-time design job on Friday that would be a nice transition back into the working world. It was short and sweet, which may be a good or a bad thing, but I know I'm more than qualified for the position so I'm going to wish for the best. I should know by Wednesday.

In the mean time, this not-so-single mom has a pass to the Henry Doorly Zoo, the Lincoln Children's Museum, the Seward Library and will more than likely get a pass to the Lincoln Children's Zoo and the town pool, so I think we'll be able to keep ourselves busy for the next 3 months. At least that's the hope :)
