I don't know if I've ever explained my reasons for why I don't actually give a full-out review of the books I read. The reason is this: I HATE it when people review a book and end up ruining the plot line. Therefore, I make sure that I only talk about what I thought of the book. This way, I can refer someone to a book without actually ruining it.
I haven't had a whole lot of free time, but I've somehow still been able to get through a few books this past month.
In case you didn't know, Larry McMurty wrote a whole series of books about the characters of Lonesome Dove. This is the first in the series and it takes you back to when Gus and Call became rangers. It was a good book, no Lonesome Dove mind you, but still good. I'll eventually finish up the series, but I need a little break so it won't be any time soon.
Books I'm looking forward to being released:
--The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls
This one had been on my list of must-reads for a very long time, and I really wish I would have read it sooner. It was fantastic. It's a true story about one woman's completely messed up childhood. It made my messed up childhood seem not-so-bad. It was a pretty quick read and it truly makes a person think about how different some people are.
--Mortal Instruments Series: City of Bones; City of Ashes; City of Glass; and finally, City of Fallen Angels, Cassandra Clare
I've read the first 3 books before, but wanted to re-read them before starting on City of Fallen Angels. I had to get the characters back in mind and really get a feel for the series again and I think it was the best approach for me when reading this book. The first book moves kind of slow, but they get better as you go. City of Fallen Angels almost seems like it's the first half of a book, and leaves you wanting more. I look forward to the next book.
--Wicked, Gregory Maguire
This was another reread. I was between trips to the library and this was finally returned to me after being loaned out years ago. My mom and sister both read it and since it'd been a long time since I had, I decided, why not? It's a whole new spin on the preconceptions of the Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda the Good Witch, and the Wizard of Oz. It's no surprise this is a broadway show because the story is fantastic.
--Shiver (Wolves of Mercy Falls Series), Maggie Stiefvater
This is the first another series of books, surprise right? It's a juvenile fantasy series, but it was a quick read and I didn't want to put it down once I started, so that's always a good sign. I just started No. 2 in the series, so I anticipate having it done in a few days. Then I'm off to the library for the last one.
Books I'm reading:
--Linger (Wolves of Mercy Falls), Maggie Stiefvater
Up next:
--Darkest Mercy (Wicked Lovely Series), Melissa Marr; I finally have this on reserve at the library!!
--Forever (Wolves of Mercy Falls Series), Maggie Stiefvater
Books I'm looking forward to being released:
--The Heroes of Olympus Book Two: The Son of Neptune, Rick Riordan, October 4
--Inheritance, (The Inheritance Cycle) Christopher Paolini, November 8
