But ... one thing I don't find funny, is when people call their kids bug, or add bug to their kids name, for example: Macy-bug or gaily-bug or I call my kid bug because he was as cute as a bug when he was a baby. Maybe I'm weird, but why would you ever want to compare your perfect, wonderful child to a bug?
I have never ever seen a cute bug, have you? Even ladybugs are super gross looking if you ever get down to the nitty gritty. They have weird hair things on their face and antennae and these crazy claw looking feet. The only thing cute about them is their spots, which is it really fair to compare the cuteness of your child with that of some ladybug spots? I don't think so.
Bugs also do a lot of un-cute, gross things. Flies spit saliva when they attempt to feed, and if you get lucky enough to have one land on your pb&j, well, lets just say it's the opposite of cute. Speaking of not cute, dung beetles actually roll balls of poop around as a portable snack. Yum. Other un-cute things about bugs include the fact that certain ones can give you lime disease, malaria, epidemic typhus, trench fever and yellow fever (to name a few) and FYI, the flea has been pegged as a vector for the Black death. These are just a few of the gross things bugs do and yet people continue to call their child bug. Ridiculous.
I'll admit, this is probably a personal preference thing, and I'm not out to attack anyone who does nickname their child using the word bug, or anything, but if you do, you should seriously start thinking of another nickname now. NOBODY wants a nickname that includes the word bug when they reach junior high. The other kids will eat them alive, or squash them with their shoe :)
