My eyes, oh my eyes

I was born with a lazy eye so I've always had questionable vision. It's just a part of who I am. However, recently my eyes have run amuck with issues.

It all started in the good ol' state of Alabama. It was there that I had my first encounter with an allergy that made my eyes swell up, itch and burn. Now, when your eyes are like that, you can't wear contacts, so I began to wear my glasses a lot more. But even when we moved away, I found that I still couldn't wear my contacts for very long. It'd be a gamble on if I could even get them in without my eyes feeling like I was sticking hot embers in them, and if I could get them in without pain, it'd take just a few hours before they were all red and irritated.

I always figured I'd just wear my glasses for a few days, and things would get better the next time I wore contacts. That never happened. So I decided that maybe I just needed to switch contacts. Maybe there was something in them that was irritating my eyes. Eventually, after some very painful eye excursions, including contacts that wouldn't remove themselves from my eye, I finally went to the eye doctor.

It turns out that the problem was with my eyes themselves, not some outside source like the contacts. Apparently, at some point my eyes got really irritated (I blame the allergic reaction I had in 'bama) and my cornea's became swollen. And every time I put my contacts in they'd freak out and get all inflamed again and they never ever healed. There was also some talk about clusters of cells, or something that sounded gross, in my eyes too. Ewe.

My wonderful eye doctor, whom I've gone to since I first got glasses back in 2000, prescribed me some anti-inflamatory steroid eye drops that should fix the problem right up though. Then I get to go back and get fitted for new contacts and I can lead a life without red eyes and glasses again. Oh the things blind people like me look forward to :)
