I've read 16 books in the past 8 weeks.
I love reading. I always have. In fact, it's a hobby that my dad, mom, sisters and I all shared. I think the reason we are all so into reading had to do with the fact that going to the library was one of the only free things to do in town. We went to the library so much that my sisters and I would even play library at home. The proof is still in all those old books our mom still has from when we were little. The inside cover of each of them still bears a hand written library number.
I love reading so much that I can honestly say I don't really have a preference as to what type of genre is my favorite. I'll just read what I've got laying around until the time comes that I have to actually go out searching for something new. I think this method works pretty well though because it forces me to read things that I wouldn't normally choose for myself, and what's a better way to broaden one's horizons?
Recently, another Nebraska Army wife loaned me a huge sack full of books. 16 of them to be exact. They are:
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards
The Secret Lives of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix
Books include: Sabriel; Lirael; and Abhorsen
Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series by Charlaine Harris
Books include: Dead Until Dark; Living Dead in Dallas; Club Dead; Dead to the World; Dead As a Doornail; Definitely Dead; Altogether Dead; From Dead To Worse; Dead and Gone
The Last Song by Nicolas Sparks
Dear John by Nicolas Sparks
I enjoyed every one of these books for different reasons and would suggest them to anyone looking for something good to read. If I were to pick my favorite out of this bunch, the Abhorsen Trilogy would have to be my favorite of the bunch.
I'm hoping that I'll be able to pass on my love of reading to my children as my parents did for me. I've bought and read tons of books to Parker and am hoping to get him signed up for story time at the local library soon. I figure he can gain a love for the library while I browse the aisles for something new to read. It's a win win for both of us!
Check out the Millenium series from Stieg Larrsson. In order, they are: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire, and The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteYes! I remember you mentioning those books a while back, and they've been on my mind. Thanks Melissa
