I just jumped right in...

I've agreed to run a half marathon. Nuts? You bet I am.

I used to run pretty regularly in high school/college. It was a great stress reliever, and if you knew what kind of home I grew up in, you'd understand my need for an escape. I'd go miles and miles just enjoying the quiet thinking time I had.

I loved running so much, I don't know when or why I stopped. Maybe it was when my mother's ridiculous alcoholic husband turned into a psychopath and running in the country alone no longer seemed like a good idea. Or, maybe it was when I moved from rural Beaver Crossing to Omaha then back to Lincoln in a matter of a month and a half. It's not like I felt really safe running alone in either of those cities. I know that by the time I was pregnant with Parker, running for fun wasn't something I did anymore.

I'm pretty excited to give the half marathon a chance though. It gives me a good reason to actually go out and train because I don't want to be the hugely out of shape one in the group. That'd be embarrassing.

Most importantly, it's not going to hurt me to run some of these pounds off my booty. haha.

  3. Well Melissa, at the moment, my run is about as fast as walking really fast so you could half marathon it with me!
