Routines

It's pretty amazing how everyone has little routines for different things that they do. They are done the same without any thought as to why, but if it's done differently by someone else it's noticeable.

For example, I always make a zig-zag pattern with mustard when I have hotdogs. Dale always picks out the best french fries first and will never eat the old or crunchy ones. Parker has to pick out which towel he wants before he takes a bath.

Most of the time, it's little stuff that really doesn't matter and as we get older a change of routine doesn't necessarily have a big affect on our day. But when you're little, these changes in even the simplest routines can seem to have a big affect.

Dale's brother got a first hand lesson in this while the boys were back in Nebraska. He made a hotdog for Parker and to test the temperature of it he broke it in half. Parker wasn't very happy about that because he always gets an unbroken hotdog and proceeded to have a fit until he got a new, unbroken hotdog. Silly for us, but a big deal for Parker.

We have tons of routines when it comes to the kids and it's just easier on everybody if we always follow them. A chocolate milk and a spongebob episode every morning for Parker. A bottle and a swaddle at bedtime for Macy. Dinner at the table every night. Routines from the simplest to the complicated keep us all happy and content. What routines do you have?
