Tomorrow Dale goes on his nickel ride. This is the traditional first ride when he receives his first training flight. At the completion, flight students traditionally give the instructor pilot (IP) a nickel minted in the year of their birth.
Finding a 1983 nickel in my purse isn't as easy as it sounds, so this is where Parker's piggy bank came in handy. I searched through all $111 in change and just found just one not-so-shiny 1983 nickel for Dale. It's sitting on the mantle right now, waiting for tomorrow. :)
Dale's excited to finally get to do what he came here for, and so am I. He had to wake up at 3 something a.m. this morning to make it there in time for a practice preflight today, and tomorrow will be just as early again. However, something tells me that he'll be waking up every hour tonight in anticipation for tomorrow.
My husband the pilot... doesn't that sound so awesome?
Yes, - the pilot. And we are so proud to say our son, the pilot. :)
