Critters

The other evening, the kids and I went to the local park to pass the time. It has this wonderful path that goes around the large pond and passes by the playground, so every time we're there we make sure to walk down to the pond to see the geese and minnows.

On this particular evening we were lucky enough to see more than just the normal critters. First, Parker spotted a snake swimming in the pond and it swam directly to a spot where another snake was hanging out. I kind of freaked out and made Parker stand back, in case they were poisonous, but it was still pretty cool for us to see them. (I researched later, and they weren't poisonous, just regular ol' water snakes, so that's good.)

Then, we decided to walk across the bridge that goes over the pond and what should we see, a ton of huge carp, right at the surface! Now we've been going to this park for the past 16 months and have never ever seen even one of these fish while there, so we hit the fish jackpot. Another family and us stood there watching the fish when a man and his kids came up with a bag full of bread, and started to feed them. I'm thinking maybe the fish knew he was coming because as soon as he left, they started to swim away as well.

This picture shows maybe half of them. It was a neat change of pace from our normal park routine.
